Ever since I was old enough to dress myself, there’s been two pattern prints that have always found a home in my closet: Florals and Stripes.
For now, I’ll focus on florals.
Because summer is ending, and with it, the hope that Texas will give me permission to break out “fall weather” clothes. I say “hope” cause Texas has been holding out on the colder weather the past year or so. Not cool, bro.
However, it does give me the opportunity to enjoy a few of my favorite summer piecesĀ a little longer…. like this beautiful silk skirt from Express.
Just darling.
I almost always get stopped in this skirt, whether I’ve dressed it down with flats and a tank top, or throw on some heels and tuck in a blouse.
Here’s a tip:
Never try to mix too many patterns, instead make one of your pieces stand out . With this skirt for example, I’ve accentuated the color pink. I could have just as easily put on teal colored heels to accentuate the teal roses. However, I wanted to focus to remain on the skirt, so I stuck to solid colors everywhere else. I’ve seen people try to match patterns to the point where its just tacky (I.e. leopard print heels and a different leopard style shirt=NO NO)
The phrase “less is more” comes to mind: Not as in wearing less but moreso in not having a “busy” looking outfit.
