This year I endlessly tried to convince my very opinionated seven year old that its still “cool” to do family halloween costumes, but she wasn’t having any of it. She said she was going to be Chewbacca and unless I was partaking in her Star Wars costume party, I was on my own. Failed bribe after failed bribe, I obliged to her fancies and got my very own mini Chewbacca this year:
When did kids start having such strong opinions about what they want to wear on one of their favorite holidays? 😉 Kidding. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars just as much as the next self proclaimed geek out there, but we’ve done star was once already and I was feeling something a little more… Disney.
….DIY Disney, that is.
So I quickly looked through my closet and was happy to see I had many of the items to dress up as the woman who is …”practically perfect in every way”:
Mary Poppins!
The black skirt, red belt, heels, and tights came from my closet.
I did have to thrift the hat and frilly button up blouse. I then superglued $1 plastic daisies and cherries from the dollar store to the hat, I taped a parrot to my black umbrella… et voila…. A very merry Wendy Poppins Ensemble! (for a whopping contribution of $10! Can ya say….cha-ching?!)
Also! A very fun guest contribution by Norberto! I felt it absolutely appropriate that he be Bert from Mary poppins, considering his name contains the character’s name in it!
I may have failed at bribing my daughter, but I managed to use a spoonful of magic to twist this guy’s arm into becoming my Bert!
…And to join me in my own rendition of Mary poppin’s Jolly Holiday:
“It’s a holly joliday with Wendy…. no wonder that it’s Wendy that we love!”
“Chim, chimney, Chim, chimney, Chim, chim, cher-ee…When you’re with a sweep You’re in glad company”
“No where is there, A more ‘appier crew, Than them wot sings, Chim, chim, cher-ee, Chim, cher-oo”
(now sing with us!)
Also, in case you wondered, Wendy Poppins had a ball of a time explaining to Chewbacca that her Parrothead Umbrella can also make a “Kessel Run in less than 12 Parsecs”
At least we kept a Disney theme. Eh, We’ll try again next year. hehe
We hope you all are enjoying your halloween! I know we can wait to get out there and see all the costumes tonight! Happy Halloween!!!!
