So here’s what happened with our “friends” from the other night:
A hike to the lake on Sunday morning to have a sunday morning picnic.
Joined by my ever so gorgeous baby sister.
I love the way she laughs. She just has the most contagious laughter.
Have you ever met someone like this? Do you have someone like this in your life? I sure hope you do.
Half the time whatever she is saying isn’t even that funny, but I know her laugh is coming and so I wait for it with anticipation because I know the moment it happens I’m also going to burst into a very unladylike guffaw of laughter.
Laughing is one of the best feelings in the world, isn’t it??? I read that one of the best things you can do for yourself at the beginning of each morning is to have a good hearted laugh because it changes your mental state form negative to positive.
Speaking of laughter, a lot of that happens around here with this tiny human that calls me mom:
and lots of kisses.
Especially eskimo kisses.
and even more moments like this:
There are many moments in my life that fill me with utter joy and happiness, and most of these moments involve having them both there.
“Home is not a place, its a feeling” is a phrase that I’m reminded of when I’m with them. Lately, I’ve been going through those crazy “Man, I’m getting old” phases where I feel like I need to constantly compare where I’m at to where I envisioned I was supposed to be in life by now. It doesn’t line up all the way and I get frustrated with myself. But then I spend a morning with them, and I remember… they are the reason any of this is even worthwhile. In the midst of all the chaos that happens in my life, they are the ones that help me make sense of the madness. When we’re old and gray and on our death beds… its moments like these that we remember. The small seemingly insignificant moments: Not the trophies, not the material things, but the real raw simplicity of moments like: a morning picnic by the lake-goofing around with jack-o-lanterns that we carved the night before (that somehow became part of our family for the day because my daughter decided to make the anthropomorphic pumpkins our friends).
