Afternoon tea and flowers delight me almost as much as throwing on a new dress, or seeing a puppy on the street. Yet at the same time- I’m overly assertive of my independence; and my desire to be my own rich husband sometimes gets in the way of me being a “soft” woman to love. Throwing on red lipstick and letting my hair down gets me as excited as sweating on the gym floor lifting weights. I’m as soft as I am hard. I guess, what I’m trying to say is we women are so multifaceted, yet for so long we’ve allowed ourselves to be squared off into stereotypes that never have fit us. Disney princesses, barbies, and babydolls in strollers- a typical toy aisle for little girls at the store. What does that teach girls? To have the “perfect” body? To hold out for prince charming and let his “salvation” turn into marriage, maternity, and a mortgage to fulfill our happiness? No. While theses things can attribute to a sense of our happiness, our definitions are boundless as women. We are so much bigger than that. May we continue to clash and contradict any stereotypes the world tries to mold us into.
