For the longest time, I fought the idea that the sixties is my favorite fashion epoch. It’s the era when skirts were worn below the knees, dresses and suits were tailored, and the heels were high but not 5 and 6 inches above the ground high (as is somehow an acceptable heel height today among some fashionistas). I swoon over many styles form the sixties, but lately, the below the knee skirts have won my heart over.
I found this vintage skirt in a thrift store recently, no designer to its name, but a beautiful addition to my closet nonetheless:
It’s very “Audrey Hepburn meets Marilyn Monroe”: Long enough to elicit class, but form fitting enough to flaunt curves …not to mention the elongated slit in the back.
My ambition when finding pieces like these is figuring out a way to give vintage a modern appeal for young women; which happens to be an easy task when you find a vintage piece that’s this lovely:
Style tip: To give vintage a modern look: mix with inexpensive items from today’s name brand clothes: Express, Gap, Old Navy, etc.
The best way to look stylish on a budget is to try second-hand, bargain hunting, and vintage.
