This past weekend my little one, Norberto, and I packed up our bags and our puppy and drove south all the way down to Port Aransas.
Its almost that time of year when the kids go back to school, and we hadn’t taken a single family trip yet this summer. With Norberto’s busy work schedule, we figured a little weekend getaway was the perfect way to end the summer.
I found a last minute cheap Airbnb where we could rest our heads at night and take a proper shower, but we knew the majority of our days would be spent here, frolicking on the beach and playing in the sand and tailgating alone the shores. We had the absolute delight of teaming up with Toyota for this road trip. Toyota let us drive their new Rav4 to Port Aransas to test it out and we all fell in love! It was the perfect vehicle with its off road capability which allowed us to drive on the sandy shores with ease. It is so stylish, roomy, and has many safety features that allowed us all to feel safe and comfortable the entire time!
One of our favorite family pastimes is building a bonfire and having s’mores… so we HAD to capitalize on the fact that Port Aransas allows beachside bonfires. Summer nights are made of this.
We also got some photos together. For ours to be a house of photographers, we are absolutely terrible at getting family photos of all of us together. No matter how much I love experiencing her grow up and develop into a young woman… there’s always a sense of sadness that my little girl is growing up.
But these photos help me hold on to these moments just a little while longer; and every time I come back to them, I can’t help but smile at all the amazing memories we’ve made and how proud I am to be her mom. Call it cliche, but being her mom is the anchor that keeps my life in place. She might not ever understand just how much she means to me, and just how much love bursts in my heart when I realize I get to be her mom.
(placing bets that she will be taller than me before this year is up!)
Till next time
