Ever since I ran into a picture of Germany’s Oktoberfest a few years ago, I’ve had an itchy little bug to travel there!
While a trip to the real Oktoberfest in Germany may have to wait a little bit, I was extremely excited when I heard they hold an “almost authentic” version of it in our local German town of New Braunfels, Tx. As soon as I heard of it, I ordered a genuine Dirndl from a German Site and hightailed it to Wurstfest (New Braunfels’ Oktoberfest). There aren’t words to adequately describe how much fun it was to partake in this, but I can show you with pictures!
Let’s start with the event itself. Like most festivals, its housed different tents and buildings:
Where you can find an array of goodies to indulge in, be it trinkets:
Food:
Or beer!
However, what truly made this event memorable was all the people we met! All the dressed up families enjoying the live bands:
This little boy practiaclly stole my heart:
However, there was no match for my charming date for the evening:
Who understands that drinking beer and learning German songs:
…mixed with carnival rides make for the best endings to a fun day of German infused festival:
Oh! and we had the pleasure of running into this year’s President, Dan Krueger:
Who is as friendly as he is full of charm and wit (and even gave us one of his presidential pins!)
Texas sure does know how to throw a German festival! I’ve already committed it into my heart and calendar to make it back next year; and plan on bringing a few of you with me!
“Ein Prosit, ein Prosit Der Gemütlichkeit!”
As we say in Texas: “Tschüss Y’all!”
Xo
P.S. If you happen to be local and run across this before the week is up, Wurstfest is running through November 12th this year! So grab a few buddies and go have yourselves some fun!!!
