Welcome back!!! Okay, lets move forward with DIY costume numero dos. One of my absolute favorite eras (and one I swear I lived through in a past life) was the 50’s. There are truly so many ways I could have taken this costume idea, but I wanted to simplify it as much as possible. I’m almost ashamed to admit that creating this look isn’t too much like dressing up for me, as on a daily basis I find myself gravitating in one way or another towards this era.
So here’s what I came up with and below you’ll find all the details on how you can replicate this look using what you have in your closet:
All dresses/skirts should be:
-Midi length at minimum (Nothing above the knees)
-Fit and flare
-A petticoat slip under your dress is a major plus! You can buy them online.
Patterns:
Gingham and Checkered were big, but polka dots is truly the way to go. To this day polka dots are associated with this era!
Hair:
Pin curls is my favorite. The vintage beauty blogger who’s pin curl tutorial I follow is Miss Victory Violet. Here is the video to my favorite tutorial. However if you don’t want to do pin curls, her channel has other ways of styling your hair.
If you click here you can go directly to here site filled with all kinds of vintage inspo to complete your look!
Accessories:
-Pearls! Pearls Pearls! Need I say it one more time? Pearls!
-Cat eyed shaped sunnies.
-A chiffon scarf wrapped around your neck or hair
-A waist cinch belt
-Hand gloves
-A clutch purse (NO big purses)
Here is a great little video with more inspiration for you. As you can see, a lot of what this costume consists of can completely be modernized into today’s style. So if you don’t already have some of these items in your closet, only buy those items that you wouldn’t mind wearing again. i.e. the sunnies, scarf, pearls, etc.
Okay my dearest. This completes my DIY tip for costume number 2 of this series. Stay tuned for number 3! Catch you tomorrow!
XO
Looks amazing!!!!
